Dry Skin? Change Your Skincare for the Season

Itchy, dry skin is as much a sign of fall as pumpkins and turkey. It’s a fact that lower humidity in the air can quickly translate into extremely dry skin that’s as parched as the leaves crumbling from the trees. So as the weather changes, your skincare should too. Here’s how:

STEP ONE: Exfoliate for a New Start to a New Season

Summer takes its own toll on the skin. We like to think of exfoliation as kicking off fall with a fresh palette. Book a facial like a Deep Pore Cleansing Facial with Microdermabrasion that will take off sunscreen build up, even out skin tone and get your skin prepared for the harsh weather that leads to dry skin. Added benefit: a trip to the spa is always great for the soul!

STEP TWO: Switch Up Your Cleanser

A clarifying polish is great to do battle against summer sweat, but might leave you open to dry skin on the face this time of year. A polish like the Nicole Contos Mint Papaya Scrub is a gentler approach that will moisturize and nourish dry, tight skin.

STEP THREE: Supercharge Your Moisturizer

Blustery winds and radiators on overdrive are a recipe for itching skin and can leave us open to dry skin rashes and even eczema or rosacea. To protect your skin from the coming cold, consider changing to a Vitamin-E rich moisturizer like the Nicole Contos Ultra Rich Moisturizer. It will act as a barrier between your skin and the harsh elements, keeping moisture in and bad bacteria out. A quick tip: keep a jar next to the shower and apply it immediately after you have patted yourself dry.

STEP FOUR: Try a Hydrating Mask Overnight

Since your skin regenerates and repairs itself while you sleep, a hydrating mask can be your best overnight guest. It can combat dry skin by creating a permeable seal on the skin and allowing your nighttime skincare regimen to penetrate the skin better. The result? You wake up with a plump, hydrated glow to your skin in the morning.

STEP FIVE: Layer Product

Layering doesn’t begin and end with sweaters in autumn. Adding serums to your skincare regime like the Nicole Contos Hydrating Serum is a great way to combat dry skin. They have a concentrated power to penetrate deeper than moisturizers to help with dry skin patches and they can be layered to give extra protection from the cold.

STEP SIX: Love Your Lips

Let’s face it: our lips often suffer the neglect of a poor stepchild. But what’s the sense in having a well-thought out approach to skincare for our face, only to ruin it with dry, cracked lips? It’s just a matter of getting into the habit: moisturize your lips with a SPF lip balm as part of your daily skincare routine.
