Juvederm Voluma is an injectable filler that’s specifically formulated for restoring mid-face volume. caused by the effects of aging and extreme weight loss. Like other Juvederm XC dermal fillers, a Juvederm Voluma filler makes use of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally occurring molecule in the body that nourishes and hydrates the skin. Fillers, like Juvederm Voluma XC, replenish the depleted hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin and restore a youthful appearance. Specifically, Juvederm Voluma is highly effective for reclaiming fullness in the cheeks or on the cheekbone.
In a nutshell, Juvederm replaces lost Hyaluronic Acid. As we age, our bodies produce less of this skin-nourishing compound. When our skin lacks this crucial element, the elastin and collagen fibers that compose the support structure of the face don’t get the nourishment they need to thrive. As a result, the face can develop deep wrinkles, hollows and folds.
Unlike Hylacross technology, Vycross technology combines higher and lower weights of hyaluronic acid in a single formula. By varying weights, Voluma, Volbella and Vollure are able to act like both a thin and a thick filler to a certain extent.
Volbella, Voluma and Vollure all use Vycross technology. However, they vary by their ratio of high to low weight HA particles, which gives them a great versatility in their use. For example, Voluma offers the thickest formulation (e.g. a larger percentage of higher weight HA particles), making it ideal to provide sturdy structure for volume loss in the cheek area. Vollure offers a happy medium. By providing both durability and moldability, it works to plump up areas of the face, such as nasolabial folds, without compromising movement in the face. The thinnest HA filler is Juvederm Volbella. It’s highly effective at filling fine lines, plumping lips and smoothing the under-eye area.
A Voluma cheek filler injection is actually quite simple and usually takes between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. Our expert medical injector can help you defy gravity and the effects of years. Medical Director, Dr. George, MD, will evaluate your face, and mark strategic Voluma injection points for Voluma placement. Using a super-fine needle, he will inject the Voluma with Lidocaine at various predetermined sites along the treatment area. Finally, he evaluate the treatment area to assess whether additional filler is needed to assure maximum benefit to the skin.
Juvederm XC comes with Lidocaine in its formulation, while Juvederm does not.
Juvederm Voluma post treatment is fairly straightforward, and bad Voluma results are rare. Because cosmetic fillers are minimally invasive, they are safe and effective alternatives to plastic surgery. Following a Juvederm Voluma injection, there’s no downtime and most patients can return to normal activity immediately. However, some patients describe a mild pinching, stinging or burning sensation at the injection site, but the treatment is usually easily tolerated. It’s advised that intense physical exercise be avoided for 24-48 hours, in order to minimize Voluma swelling. Some patients experience mild and temporary swelling, bruising, numbness, tenderness or redness, which usually dissipates within a few hours to a few days. Topical icing is recommended to alleviate these symptoms.
You will notice instant volume in the cheekbone or chin area following a Voluma injection. However, it can take up to a week to see full correction. How long for Voluma to settle in its place depends on the time it takes for the filler to fully integrate into the dermis to hold its final shape. Once it’s reached full correction, a Voluma injection can last up to 18 months. However, it’s important to note that individual results vary.
How many syringes of Voluma depends on the area treated, as well as the correction desired. In general, we suggest that you come in for a private consultation to determine the full Voluma cost for the cheeks.
Even with the detailed explanations above, the differences between all Juvederm HA fillers remain subtle. For example, Vollure and Juvederm Ultra are both indicated for smoothing smile lines and adding volume to nasolabial folds. So how do you know which dermal filler will help you achieve your aesthetic goals? That’s where a practitioner who has experience with Voluma technique comes in. It’s more important to find a physician with medical training, knowledge of facial anatomy and a keen eye for aesthetics than to master the science behind each particular filler. Because your doctor has an arsenal of specialized fillers now, he has more choices than ever before. He can create a personalized treatment plan based on your particular aging concerns and individual skincare needs.
